My husband David met someone who used to attend church and understood the meaning of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, but he was stuck in the throes of drug and alcohol addiction. This man was undeniably depressed because he was tired of the life he was living. Without much thought, David tried encouraging the man and simply said, "God has a purpose for your life." The man focused on David and asked, "Do you really think so?" David answered “Yes,” which then brought the man to tears. He felt worthless, and defeated, and stuck; yet someone told him God has a purpose for his life. God has a reason for him to be alive. It was exactly what this man needed to hear to help him re-focus. In fact, it's what we all need to hear from time to time, because we all have moments when we feel like failures. The good news is that, whatever our failures, we can always learn from them, and we can always start over. So, no matter who you are, or what you have been through, let me be clear about this; there is a God in Heaven who loves you and has a purpose for your life; and figuring out your purpose isn’t as hard as you might think. Read the following verses to see what God's Word says. Then, choose to make a new start today, a new commitment, to work at fulfilling your God-given purpose.

YOU ARE HERE TO LOVE (both God and others)
Matthew 22:37-39 - And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ (NAS)
